ADVENT - WEEK 4

We have enjoyed this journey with you!

**For families or the young at heart, there will be a list of Advent activities to do at the bottom of this page!
Counselor
Peace. What a beautiful thought. Peace doesn’t come from perfect circumstances or with perfect people. Peace comes in spite of chaos. Peace comes from God and wraps our hearts and minds in a sense of calmness and safety that can only come from the holds all things. Philippians tell us that God’s peace surpasses all understanding and guards our hearts and minds IN CHRIST JESUS. There is no peace without the Prince of Peace. Today if your heart and mind are spinning out of control, ask Jesus to guard thoughts and feelings. Thank Him for being with you in the chaos and ask Him to bring peace to your heart and your home.

Song for today: Silent Night
As a child, I was terrified of storms (honestly, to this day I don’t like them). My Dad worked third shift as I grew up and was gone all night every night.  I remember vividly one night when there was a tornado warning.  My Mom woke us up and hurried us to the basement. I still can remember sitting by the washer and dryer crying.  All I kept saying was I wish my Dad was here.  Could he have stopped the storm? No.  But just having him near made everything better.  Jesus came to this earth so that He could be near – Emmanuel - God with us.  He joins His people in fiery furnaces, He steps into the boat when the seas are rolling, He is with you right now in the middle of whatever you are facing.  Thank Him for coming to be with YOU.  Ask Him to remind you that He is near and you don’t have to be afraid.

Song for today: Emmanuel by Bryan and Katie Torwalt
Jesus.  All of the meaning of Christmas, Easter and Salvation wrapped up in one name.  If you take anything from this Advent devotional series, know that Jesus loves YOU, left Heaven to come to earth to be with YOU, lived, died and conquered death so YOU could come live with Him for eternity. He gave His life for YOU.  Give your life to Him.  Call on His powerful name (every knee will bow to Him).  Be baptized and clothe yourself with Him.  Receive the Spirit and LIVE FOR HIM.  We’d love to do this with you at North Canton Church of Christ!
Merry Christmas!
See you Sunday!

Song for today: O What a King

Family Advent Activities for Week 4 (Love):

Songs to listen to for our Love Week: O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Holy Night, King of Kings by Hillsong, God with Us by All Sons and Daughters (Some of these songs you will hear at the Christmas Eve Service!)

Activities for our week of LOVE: (Choose as many or as few as you’d like):
•Light a candle & read your scriptures. Color your candle to your Advent craft.
•Make hot chocolate with your family.  Add fun things like marshmallow cream or chocolate chips.  Sit and drink it while you tell each person in your family 1 thing you love about them.
•Pick some items from your pantry or closet to donate to the Church.  Discuss how sharing what we have with those in need shows God’s love.
•Using the Christmas tree pattern, use markers to color your finger to make “fingerprint lights”.  Give it to a relative or neighbor. Tell them that God loved them so much that He sent Jesus to save them.
•Make a Christmas card for an elderly person you know. Mail it or hand deliver it. Talk about how we are to love others like Jesus.
•Make Bethlehem bread. Bethlehem means “House of Bread”.  It was where Jesus was born!  Retell the story or read about how there was no room for Mary and Joseph to stay as you eat (or share) your bread.  Recipe: 3 cups self-rising flour, 3 Tbs. sugar, 3 Tbs. butter melted. 12 oz. 7 up.  Mix flour, sugar and 7 up. Dough will be lumpy. Put in greased loaf pan. Pour melted butter over the top. Bake at 350 for 45-55 minutes.
